Title: Crayons
Author: greenconverses
Fandom:  Stargate: Atlantis
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: John Sheppard, Teyla Emmagan, Ronon, Rodney McKay

Why it's awesome: It's a very clever glimpse of seeing a young!Teyla through the eyes of John. Cute stuff.

Favorite Line:

She's always been an enigma to him and it is with a blank sheet of paper and sixty-some colors that he finally gets an accurate picture of her history and the emotions she hides so well.

Characters/Pairings: Giselle, Robert Phillip, Morgan Phillip, Giselle/Robert

Why it's awesome: It's an AU. It's sweet and perfectly in character.  The author really captured Giselle's sweetness and I adore her interaction with Morgan. :D

Favorite Line:

"Thank you," he says. "She likes stories like that, you know, the fairy tales and happy endings. I try-" His voice wavers, steadies. "I try not to encourage her, too much anyway. I don't want her to be disappointed when she finds out it's all pretend."

Giselle touches his arm, gently, as he collects himself. "It isn't all make-believe," she says. "There's magic in the world, yet, if you know where to look."

Title: Ages of Alice
Author: [livejournal.com profile] just_a_dram
Fandom:  Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Rating: T
Characters/Pairings: Chessur, Alice, Tarrant, Alice/Tarrant

Why it's awesome: Disclaimer: I love, love, love AUs and while this story isn't an AU, it certainly has that feel.  We get to see five different Alices and Hatters.  Each pair is unique. Plus, for the majority of the fic, we get the (IMO) best narrator: Chess. (I love that cat.) Plus, for an added bonus of goodness, devour the footnotes.  :D

Favorite Line:

I do not like blood: it mattes the fur.  Uninvolvement was a wiser choice for me.

The world inverted.  Everything went dark.  And everything had to begin again, new, different, more magical, and Under.

Perhaps in this one case it was not the Alice who was not Alice enough.  But I do so hate politics.

Title: Monday Morning
Author: rubycaspar
Fandom:  Primeval
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: Jess Parker, Hilary Becker, Becker/Jess

Why it's awesome: It's fluffy. It's sweet. It's like cotton candy. And I love it.  Ruby knows exactly the right balance of sweet and too sweet.  Becker and Jess are absolutely adorable.  Ruby is, ahem, quite brilliant with this fic. :D :D

Favorite Line:

"And chocolate too I see – some people are just so predictable," he said, shaking his head.

Jess swallowed. "Actually, the chocolate was a surprise," she said.

Becker raised an eyebrow. "A good one?" He asked.

Jess' heart was beating at at least twice its normal rate. They were flirting. Becker was actually flirting with her.
(I am behind a day. Oops.)

Title: Door Open Door Closed
Author: lattelady
Fandom:  Eleventh Hour
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: Jacob Hood, Rachel Young

Why it's awesome: There was something charming about the two of these characters working together and this fic is a great example of displaying their relationship.  I would have loved to see the evolution of their "partnership" but, alas, the show was axed after one season.

Favorite Line:

"Not now! If you're bored, check out the room service menu, but for God's sakes, remember to use your cover name if you order before I get back!" She called over her shoulder and stalked toward her room.

"Ahhh is it Smith or Jones this week?" He was needling her and they both knew it.

"Neither!" She ground her teeth and gripped her hands into fists at her sides. It was an indication of how tired she was that she almost rose to the bait. "It's Rainier. John Rainier. We're doing the mountains remember…. St. Helen's, Rainier, McKinley. Just never ever Hood…"
Title: Milkshakes at Midnight
Author: Brandon D. Ray
Fandom: The X-Files
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: Scully, Mulder, Mulder/Scully

Why it's awesome: Brandon did a brilliant job of getting into Scully's head after the episode "Millennium".  It's short, sweet and adorable.  If only something like this could have happened on the show.

Favorite Line:

And now, finally, Mulder's gone and done it. He's crossed the line, and there's no way for me to ignore it or pretend he didn't mean it. He isn't drugged up -- well, okay, he is a little, but thirty milligrams of Tylenol #3 just isn't the same as IV Demerol. He wasn't desperate because he thought I was about to leave him. He wasn't even hyped up over some hokey story about a baseball-playing alien.

Nope. None of those things are true. He simply, plainly, unmistakeably, wanted to kiss me. And I wanted him to kiss me. And he did, and I let him, and now here we are at Denny's at 1:45 in the morning eating french fries and chocolate milkshakes, and I'm shaking like a leaf.

Title: Reine
Author: crazygurlmadness
Fandom: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Rating: K
Characters/Pairings: Link, Zelda, Link/Zelda

Why it's awesome: It was difficult for me to connect with Zelda throughout this video game.  This fic fleshed out her character --and her relationship with Link-- in a beautiful way.  I love seeing a post-TP Hyrule and what happens after the screen fades to black.

Favorite Line:

She was grateful for Link's help. He had indeed vanquished the Evil Ganon and restored Midna of Twilight ―and herself― to her rightful throne. That, in itself, was formidable enough and had deserved him much honour.

But the true heroics, she had realized in the following months, were much subtler, and much greater in a way.

He made the people happy.

Title: Je Mourrais
Author: kavek
Fandom: Halo
Rating: T
Characters/Pairings: Cortana, John-117

Why it's awesome: Small disclaimer: I am only recing the first three chapters of this fic. It's a WIP, but the three chapters work as a standalone.  The author is awesome in his descriptions plus he strikes a perfect balance between John and Cortana.

Favorite Line

Out of ammo, out of ideas, out of options.

A mistake. He'd made a mistake.

The Master Chief was the tactical, thinking warrior who destroyed Halos, liberated planets, slaughtered thousands of Covenant on their own battlefields. He was not reckless – daring, yes, but not reckless. Yet he'd just committed a huge tactical error, a faux pas that would have had Officer Mendez stomping him into a mud hole if he could have seen it.

Title: roll the dice
Author: vinylroad
Fandom: Push
Rating: T (for swearing)
Characters/Pairings: Nick, Cassie, brief Nick/Cassie (nothing underage)

Why it's awesome: It's got some solid Nick and Cassie friendship scenes.  Characterization is fabulous and I love how the author is able to cover a long period of time (ten years) with brief glimpses--she give just the right about of detail to whet your appetite for more without getting bogged down.

Favorite Line:  She recognizes one of them, one of the scientists fleeing around them, running for the exits. Nick looks at her and doesn't even have to ask; Cassie doesn't want to know what is written across her face.

One sharp sweep of Nick's hand and the man goes through the window of thirty-second floor.

Title: All in the Mind
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrstater
Fandom: Star Trek: 2009
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: Spock, Uhura, Spock/Uhura

Why it's awesome: I'll admit when I watched the movie for the first time, I got sucked into the ship. Hard.  I love Spock's logicalness and Uhura's realization that maybe she didn't want to just be known for her mind after all.

Favorite Line:  "That posture hardly looks comfortable," Spock observed from across the office as the door slid shut behind him. "You usually demonstrate a greater aptitude at following directions. Should I have said, 'At ease, Cadet'?"
Title: Hungry
Author: Frodo Baggins of Bag End
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Rating: K+
Characters/Pairings: Frodo, Sam, Strider, Merry, Pippin, Eowyn, Arwen

Why it's awesome: I love the plot of this story because it's perfectly Hobbit-y.  Of course Frodo and Sam would struggle with hunger as Strider tries to slowly move them back to a normal diet in the aftermath of Mordor.  The characterizations of all the characters are wonderful--I especially liked Pippin being Pippin and Eowyn is awesome.

Favorite Line:

"What?" Young Master Pippin looked entirely calm. "It's hardly our fault we get lovely baked fish with apples and mustard, and freshly shelled peas, and new potatoes, and roast duck, and applesauce, and raspberry tarts. . . ."

"Pippin!" Mr. Merry and I both fairly shouted at once.

". . .and sticky toffee pudding, and poppyseed cake, and - what did they call those, Mer? - crab cakes? But they aren't cake at all; they're savouries, and - "

"PIPPIN!" Mr. Frodo looked ready to throttle him.

Title: Rowing in Eden
Author: ancarett
Fandom: Thor/The Avengers
Rating: T
Characters/Pairings: Jane Foster/Thor, Loki/Sif, Jane Foster, Thor, Natasha Romanov, Loki, Odin, Tony Stark, Nick Fury, Pepper Potts, Clint Barton, Steve Rogers, Sif, Darcy Lewis

Why it's awesome: This story is fantastic because the characterization is spot on perfect. From Jane to Tony to Pepper, ancarett has the character's voices down. The plot is action-y with some romance thrown in for good measure. Plus, this fic has some killer art to go with it!
Title: Jasper's Last Thought
Author: MD1016
Fandom: The X-Files
Rating: T
Characters/Pairings: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Scully/Mulder
Why it's awesome: I've read a ton (literally, probably more) of X-Files fic throughout my career as a fangirl.  There are few that stayed with me as I drifted away from the fandom.  There is something perfect in its simplicity here.  MD was able to take an issue (Scully getting abducted again) and streamline everything to a bare minimum.
Current Mood: chipper
I thought it was about time I do something fandom based, so I decided to make a list of my favorite stories of all time.  The fandoms are diverse, the authors are numerous.  Some are shippy, others angsty, others are awesome in their gen-ness. There are long fics (10k+) but mostly the fics are shorter ones, so take a little bit of your time to read them.

The goal is to have no more than two fics represented per fandom and no (ok, there is one) duplicate authors.  They'll be posted in no particular order...the posts were made as I thought of the fics. (Thank goodness for scheduled posting, right?)

Read and enjoy! :D :D
