azure_horizon and her prompt (SGA: Carson-Teyla (fship) - playing Mario Kart.) for my comment fic post. (Yes, the others are coming. Some day.)
He hadn't been this tense driving since his driving test decades ago.
Carson kept his gaze locked forward, his eyes unwavering from the road ahead of him.
There she was.
Oh, she looked like the pillar of innocence, driving in a pink car with her long hair blowing in the wind, but Carson knew just how dangerous she could be.
He was gaining on her; the long straightway had allowed him to nearly catch up to her position.
Teyla was going down.
He lined up his car directly behind hers and pushed the button on the console. A green turtle shell launched from the front of his car. But before it could hit its target, Teyla swerved her car to the right which allowed the shell to sail past her.
Carson inwardly cursed. She was better than he had given her credit for.
There wasn't much time left for him to make his move; he could see the finish line on the horizon. He steered a little to the left and pushed the engines as hard as he could.
Just a wee bit more.
But before he could pass her, Teyla suddenly shot forward, her engine roaring. She must have been holding on the a turbo mushroom! Carson watched in dismay as she crossed the finish line in front of him.
"You should not have challenged me to a rematch," Teyla said.
Carson pulled his gaze away from the TV screen and turned towards Teyla who was smirking slightly. He grinned good-naturedly at her. "Aye, you did try to warn me." He set the Wii remote beside him. "I would have never guess that you'd enjoy playin' video games."
Teyla grinned. "Last week, both John and Evan were unable to beat me in a multiplayer match on Call of Duty."
"Oh," Carson said conspiratorially, "So that's why they haven't been down here since last week."
"John assures me that he is catching up on paperwork," she replied dryly. She pointed the remote at the screen. "Do you want to play another round? Torren should be asleep for another hour." She nodded in the direction on the sleeping toddler.
"No, no." Carson stood quickly. "I think I've got some paperwork to do."
Teyla smiled knowingly. "Then I will not keep you from it."
Carson waved as he left the room. He hardly walked ten steps when he heard John call to him. "Just got your ass whooped?"
Carson shifted slightly. While he wasn't a vein man, he did try to preserve his ego when he could.
"That's what I thought," John replied without waiting for an answer. He leaned close to Carson. "Lorne has a Wii, a 360 and a PS3 set up in his quarters. We've been practicing. Wanna come?"
A grin spread on the doctor's face. "I'll be there in ten minutes. I just need to grab a case of Irn-Bru from my quarters."
Maybe, I'll have a chance to beat Teyla after all.
