Do you know what I hate that is seemingly becoming a trend with books?

It's something I call the "season ender".  If there is a series of books, the author thinks it's cool to get up to the last scene and fade to black before the ending is resolved to make the reader feel like "Dude, I've got to go buy the next book!!!11!!1!!"  A lot of the free books for the Kindle (Natch.  After all, the free books are usually a way to get the author's name out there.) but you know what?

PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THIS IDEA.

I don't mind having a story that natural ending that opens to something more. (Think Harry Potter or The Empire Strikes Back or Back to the Future...I could go on and on.) But please, don't be like, "Miss Heroine finally found the suspect. Now, to make things 'exciting', I'll save their confrontation for the next book."  It's lame. And your marketing technique doesn't work. Go, read the reviews around the internet. You are not winning over any fans with this idea.

To be fair, I don't know if this is something the author decides or if it's the publisher. But seriously, it's made of fail.

Somebody find these people a plot diagram, stat!

That moment when your incoherent plot suddenly makes sense. \o/

(And, I'd like to say thanks to Kate and her use of "FEEEEEEEEELINGS". When I feel my characters are emotionally stunted, I put that note in the margin.)
