A Look at a Book...
So, back in July [livejournal.com profile] grav_ity wrote a post that [livejournal.com profile] laura_josephsen wrote a book called Confessions from the Realm of the Underworld (Also Known As High School). Seeing that it was available on the Kindle format, I zipped over to Amazon and downloaded the first chapter.

I have to admit. I had trouble connecting with it initially. Maybe it was because I had been writing for the Tangled fandom so much that the transition was a little impossible for my blonde brain to handle. Maybe it's because subconsciously I was waiting for the firearms to come out since I couldn't remember the last time I read a fiction book that didn't have some kind of weaponry. Honestly, I think it was the names. (Which I'm sure most people loved, but since I'm one of the 80% of people* who can't say her name right, I found them a little, er, scary?)

So, I put it on the list of "when all my big bang stories are written I'll probably come back and try it again". But then, about a month later, [livejournal.com profile] sache8 made a post promoting the same book. Someone was trying to tell me something, right? She had linked Laura's blog on her post, so I popped over there. (What do you mean I was stalling from writing Taming the Rider at that point? LOL) She had written a tag to the novel. Being the Spoiler Junkie avid reader I am, I went ahead and read the short story.

That got me hooked. I don't want to spoil anyone who may read it, but let's just say that my favorite trope of all time was referenced there. It went from "someday I'll read it" to "Gee, I'm glad my birthday is less than a month away".

So, on my birthday I bought it (thanks Mom for the Amazon GC! LOL). And I read the whole book in an afternoon. It's a fun book that deals with some heavy issues. (It's not an oxymoron, really.)

I love Joey beyond all reason. Maybe because I identify with him the most. Sephie is awesome because she's got the spunk that I want to have. (On a side note, I find it completely amusing that two books I have read this year both have a character named Andromeda--very, very different characters, but amusing nonetheless.)

I think Laura did a great job of showing us these big issues exactly the way a teen would. While there are a few epiphanies made throughout the book, none of them seem out of character or too mature for who Sephie is (a seventeen years old who isn't quite sure what to do after high school.)

But, you know the true sign that I really, really liked the book? I wanted more. One word: wedding. Because we know that it would be all kinds of crazy awesome.

If you're looking for a fun read, go and check it out. It's only $2.99 for the Kindle version.

*Sephie's stat, not mine. LOL

Yay! I'm so glad you read and enjoyed! And glad that my rec helped Laura's cause. ;-)

Also... *blinks* I love the new layout. Very warm, soothing colors. I've been pondering a new layout for a while. I usually go about two years before I start to itch for a change, and I'm about due. Something bright, this time, methinks...

Yes! I am so grateful for your post because I would have missed out on a wonderful story, so thank you!

Yeah, I tend to change my layouts ALL the time. I think this is my sixth one of the year...It seems to match whatever happens to be my obsession fandom of the month, LOL

[livejournal.com profile] sache8 just called me on the phone and pointed me toward this, and I just have to say "EEEEE!!" And "THANK YOU!!!" I'm thrilled to pieces that you enjoyed the story. It's not the kind of story I normally write at all, but apparently my brain needed it when I wrote it. ;) Thank you for reading it, and for reviewing it--I really, really appreciate it.

Also, I'm now very curious about what your favorite trope of all time is.

You know, a wedding might be all kinds of crazy awesome to write. I'll have to store that away if I have an urge to write any other short stories. :D

Wow, thank you for stopping by a dropping a note and writing such a great piece of work! It seems this book has a way of seeping in making itself at home. (I tend to stick with CSI-style books, so you can imagine the shift! LOL)

Oh, my favorite trope is my best friend is also my significant other trope. (Er, I'm sure there's a more accurate trope page other there, but it's the best I could find at the moment.) Once I read that Sephie refers to Joey as her best friend AND gives him with a kiss at the end, I knew resistance was futile. I had to read it.

Thank you for writing such a great story! It was a blast to read! :D :D

Edited for html fail. Oops. LOL

OHHH, that is my all time favorite, too! Faith ([livejournal.com profile] sache8) is my co-author on our "Restoration" series, and she knows I have a severe weakness for best friends falling in love, so they often creep into my stories in some way, shape, or form. ;) I think, honestly, when I wrote Confessions that I was desperately craving some BFF Romance because it had been so long since I'd gotten to write any. (Of course, initially Sephie and Joey were supposed to get together at the end of the book, but Joey just could not keep his lips to himself. Pfft. Characters. Gotta love 'em.)

Don't get me wrong, romance in other ways can be tons of fun, but best friends always make me a bit giddy. :D

Haha, I imagine it was quite a shift from CSI-types! I tend to read (and write) fantasy or fantasy with a science-based world--I'm not used to reading or writing anything without weapons and giant plots, so you're in good company. Thanks again so much for reading it!
